Biography

The young German-Northern Irish soprano Janina Staub is a member of the ensemble at Theatre Freiburg since the season 22/23.

Previously she was part of the Opera studio there and performed several small and mediocre roles such as Barbarina, Second Woman/Spirit in Dido & Aeneas, Jeannie in the world premiere „Jukeboxopera“, Poussette, Javotte and Rosette in Manon, Kate Pinkerton in Madama Butterfly, the crested hen/ woodpecker in Janáčeks Cunning little Vixen, which is also released on NAXOS under Fabrice Bollon.

In the world premiere of Schauinsland directed by Kommando Himmelfahrt she was the soprano soloist. In the current season she will perform Ännchen (Freischütz), the first elf in Rusalka and will be part of „Neuro-Moon“ composed by Sara Glojnaric.

Janina Staub is a frequently asked Concert singer and has performed several grand oratorios, such as the Creation with the Philharmonic Orchestra Baden-Baden, St.Johns Passion (Alexander Lebek) and Elijah, Mozart-Requiem in the Philharmony Berlin under Jörg-Peter Weigle. Under the latterer she also performed Mahler 4th symphony with the State Orchestra Brandenburg in Frankfurt (Oder). As a recreation of Brahms‘ Requiem she has sung with L‘arpa festante at the Heidelberger Frühling Lieder festival. For a commemoration act she has performed with the Hallé Orchestra under Jonathan Heyward in Manchester. With Klangforum Schweiz she has brought the travails „Missa a quattro“ by G.S. Mayr to the Swiss radio.

One of her latest engagemants has led her to the Salzburger Festspiele, where she performed „Quando stanno morendo“ with her colleagues of Cantando Admont (C.Bürgi) under Silvain Cambreling.

At a very early age Janina discovered her interest in singing and was a youth student at Music College Stuttgart. She continued her studies later at Hanns Eisler Music College Berlin (Bachelor and Master) and then at Freiburg Music College with a concert exam.

During her studies she gained valuable experience at the Education Project with the Potsdamer Kammerakademie, Neue Szenen V at Deutsche Oper Berlin and at Castle Opera Weikersheim production Hänsel and Gretel. Next to several Opera Scenes she was the leading soprano role (Clarice) at the Big production „Il mondo della Luna“ at Hanns Eisler.

Janina Staub has been awarded several prizes in the Young Federal Competition „Jugend Musiziert“ and at Bundeswettbewerb Gesang 2014. In Portugal she received the 2nd prize at Verao Classico Lisboa in Portugal.
